Victorian Education Excellence Awards

On Friday, I was lucky enough to attend the DEECD’s Victorian Education Excellence Awards held at Crown Palladium in Melbourne. I was a finalist for the Victorian Teachers Mutual Bank Primary Teacher of the Year award and was completely surprised and honoured to be announced as the winner.

I cannot express my gratitude for such an accolade. There are so many people to thank because without the continued support from those around me it would not be possible to accomplish what I do.

A huge thank you to my colleague Lauren who nominated me for this award. Lauren is an amazing teacher who is extremely supportive and so eager to learn new things. I have only worked with her since the beginning of the year and am amazed at how many new things she has taken on board and integrated in her classroom.

I am extremely lucky to have a supportive leadership team who continually let me try new things in the classroom. I appreciate that I work in a school community that values the importance of innovation and let’s me try new things- even if they may not sound too convincing to begin with. It is obvious through the motivation, engagement and improved student learning outcomes of my students that   having the initiative to experiment has definitely paid off.

I have to thank my fantastic Twitter PLN for the continued support, ideas and putting up with my never ending Evernote tweets! I love that I can get on Twitter and learn something new everyday. A special shout out to Kathleen Morris (last year’s winner) who was a fabulous support and put up with my many nervous Twitter messages leading up to the event!

I am so blessed to have a magnificent group of students (some of which I have taught two years in a row) who take on board so much everyday! These amazing 10 & 11 year olds are the reason I love my job! It was so wonderful to hear from them early Saturday morning after seeing the results of the night posted in Edmodo!

Lastly I just want to thank my friends and family who are now accustomed to listening to my stories, putting up with my work in the ‘holidays’ and continually support me in achieving my best!

  1. Congratulations on winning this award, may this be the start of a great list of achievements, you thoroughly deserve it. With all the work you do on your website and finding time to research and present information online is truly amazing. How you find time for a family life escapes me.
I wish we were taught about time management when I was at school as there never seems enough hours in the day in today’s world.

I always enjoy the online classes, and wish they were around when I was a school !!! Computers were entering the private schools in my last couple of years of High School, the world has changed so rapidly.

    Congratulations again and Best Wishes.
